Comprising Fascinated, The Prisoner of Meadow Bank, Mr Romance, Vinegar Soup and Einstein, this ebook design series was commissioned by publishing house, Canelo, to celebrate five of Miles Gibson's most beloved books. While each of these titles is a standalone novel, all of the books are set in the 1950s and feature a prevailing black comedy tone. Fascinated follows a marketing man for a tropical fruit company who ends up working for a gangland boss and having an affair with the boss' sex-addicted daughter. In The Prisoner of Meadow Bank, a woman's life changes drastically when she loses weight, much to the annoyance of her husband who works at a cleaning products company. Mr Romance is a bawdy boarding house comedy following a teenage boy (and avid wrestling fan) who falls for one of the guests. In Vinegar Soup, after his wife drowns in a vat of soup, a chef takes his family out of the greasy spoon they run and sets up home in Africa. And Einstein sees an alien arrives at Charlie's house in the middle of the night to rescue Einstein, Charlie's pet dog, from the end of the world.

While our cover cooks would have followed a postmodern approach for this ebook series, the author had a personal preference for iconic covers with simple graphics and no photography. As such, the publishers requested the cover designs to appear coherent and follow an illustrative design approach. Using a stark, contrasting black and white color palette, our cover cooks created minimalist illustrations that encapsulate the narrative of each book in a single, symbolic image. Much like Gibson's darkly satirical writing, the illustrations evoke themes of both magic realism and absurdist fiction. Brash, vibrant background colors complete the series covers, with each book depicted by a unique color.
